Paul Balke beschrijft geschiedenis, cultuur, gastronomie, druivenrassen en wijntradities over de grenzen heen.
Het is het eerste Engelstalige boek over deze zone als geheel. Volgens de auteur hoort de Noordelijke Adriatische kust bij de grote Europese wijnmacroregio’s, net als Bordeaux, Bourgogne, Piemonte of Toscane: één naam voor veel verschillende subgebieden die historisch en cultureel verbonden zijn.
Collio, Brda, Colli Orientali, Grave, Isonzo, Aquileia, Vipava, Karst, Istrië en Kvarner. Sommige gebieden liggen over landsgrenzen heen, zoals Collio en Brda, delen van de Karst, of Istrië.
Paul Balke is journalist en auteur, woonachtig in Italië. Hij schrijft over wijn voor Nederlandse en internationale media, geeft masterclasses en zat in wijnjury’s. Eerder verscheen onder meer zijn Piemonte Wine and Travel Atlas. Hij spreekt zeven talen.

North Adriatic is a wine and travel atlas about one connected wine terroir in three countries: Friuli Venezia Giulia, western Slovenia, Istria and Kvarner. Subtitle: one terroir, three countries. Paul Balke describes history, culture, gastronomy, grape varieties and wine traditions across the borders.
It is the first English-language book on this zone as a whole. According to the author the northern Adriatic coast belongs with the large European wine macro-regions, just as Bordeaux, Bourgogne, Piemonte or Toscana: one name for many different sub-areas that are linked by history and culture.

Paul Balke is a journalist and author, living in Italy. He writes about wine for Dutch and international media, gives masterclasses and has sat on wine juries. Earlier work includes his Piemonte Wine and Travel Atlas. He speaks seven languages.
